![]() ![]() In 2005, the Museum completed a major renovation which included the installation of the RiverPlay exhibit, an outdoor rooftop exhibit focusing on simple machines, and Buzz Alley exploring the world of bees. The Science Theater relocated to the Museum’s main campus in 2010. In 2004, CDM acquired the NewsChannel9 Science Theater in Northgate Mall which has become a key component of its science education efforts. It quickly evolved into a multi-disciplinary, educational institution, utilizing interactive programs and exhibits to explore art, music, science and technology. CDM was incorporated in 1992 and opened in 1995. The board recommended a separate children’s museum be created as part of the revitalization of downtown. The field science area contains a section where children can dig fossils out of the sand and investigate various dinosaurs.The idea for CDM was born in 1989 as the board of the Hunter Museum of American Art evaluated the viability of developing a children’s wing. The music area is newly renovated and contains exhibits which demonstrate different instruments and music from different cultures. The art area is popular and teaches children about art from all across the world. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to educational enrichment for children ages 4 months to 12 years through interactive, hands-on experiences that foster creative and critical thinking. Kids and parents can climb to the top of the exhibit, over a swinging bridge out to a lookout station, and then slide through a twisting tunnel back down. Creative Discovery Museum is recognized as one of the top childrens museums in the nation. RiverPlay is a two-story tall exhibit with a riverboat area for toddlers and larger area for older children. The museum has several areas in which children can learn and play. Lock-ins provide free time for play in the museum, scheduled time in the gift shop, dinner (usually pizza), snacks, and a lesson. Birthday parties can be scheduled and are a hit among younger children. Tours are available for larger parties including school groups and visiting day camps. Guided lessons are sometimes available in the art, kitchen, and science areas as well as story time the lesson topics change almost monthly.
