The Welsh towns were also ideal as many of the tourist sights were outside, so Ed and I could enjoy some culture and history too, without having to take it in turns to visit the insides of buildings or museums, whilst one of us waits outside with Millie - that's not how we want to run our visits! The trips are about the 3 of us spending time together, and Conwy allowed for that. She has slowed down massively and that damn protruding spinal disc of hers limits exercise. Millie couldn't hack this now (neither could we). You hear Snowdonia and you automatically imagine long and onerous hilly walks, with miles and miles of Welsh landscape and conquered summits. The area of Snowdonia National Park and Colwyn Bay are perfect for a dog-friendly getaway. And so that has led us here, and what a fantastic year we have had! ![]() Not because we felt guilty on them having to look after her, but because we have realised that for how ever many years she has left with us, we want to spend as much time as we possibly can with her. How could we leave Millie knowing that her life is so much shorter than ours, yet we were missing out on days or weeks of this shorter life? How could we go away leaving Mum and Dad to battle with the dozens of daily pills, seizure precautions and instructions, and Emergency phone numbers? We just couldn't. But as the signs of her getting older have become more obvious - the aching legs, slower and shorter walks and more frequent trips to the vets - something just didn't feel right. We have always been lucky in that we have trusted Millie in the love and care of my parents or sister whilst we have travelled, and this has been wonderful for the last 10 years. There is just something about sampling local beers and foods from new countries and following a map until it leads you off the beaten track. From cross-country USA roadtrips, Canadian and New England snowy winters, Morocco's Medinas, to the tourist traps of Europe's favourite cities, we have been hooked. Ed and I have always loved travelling it has defined us, our relationship and our lifestyle for as long as we have been together. ![]()
